David Murray established the Murray Foundation in 1996 as a support
service for amputees and their families in Scotland. Regardless of
the reason for amputation, losing a limb is a very traumatic experience
with all aspects of life being affected. Whilst physical rehabilitation
is catered for in every sense – there are a number of other
needs such as the need for information, the need for emotional support
and the need to alleviate any sense of isolation or fear that may
be felt – that also need attention.
To try and provide this additional support the Murray Foundation offers
a range of information leaflets and videos on the rehabilitation process
itself, through to contacts for sport and leisure, car adaptations
and holidays. We also have a comprehensive listing of all associated
organisations that may be able to help individuals with a particular
problem or challenge. The Foundation also provides BAC accredited
counsellors and Hospital Visiting of new amputees, for those in need
of emotional support.
The Murray Foundation is there to help and advise any person affected
by the amputation and can be reached either through our freephone
Helpline on 0800-0282822, our website at www.murray-foundation.org.uk
or call direct to our office on 0141-580-8564
